This is the first episode of a new graphic novel by the cranky novelist and columnist Alon Preiss, and it is somewhat fictionalized in one important respect.

“I am alive and well,” Preiss tells us, “though it will not be ever thus. So while this story is currently fiction, someday, perhaps soon, it will cease to be so.”
