Your Sunday Funnies: More “Bertha the Siberian Cheesehound”

As we’ve noted before, and as we may well note again, there really once was a comic strip called “Bertha the Siberian Cheesehound.” It was drawn by the still-famous Rube Goldberg back in the 1920s, and it was a spin-off of the even more stunningly named strip, “Boob McNutt,” also by Goldberg. (Really, the worst title for a comic strip this side of Boner’s Ark.) We’ve given you the history of the strip before, so there is nothing more to say besides here’s another one, and enjoy.

RUBE GOLDBERG lived from 1883 to 1970, and he is remembered principally as the originator of the “Rube Goldberg Machine,” elaborate, ridiculous contraptions that take many steps to complete a simple task, and which are constantly mimicked and referenced even today. But before he was famous for his machines, he wrote a comic strip called Bertha The Siberian Cheesehound and another one called (quite unfortunately) Boob McNutt. These are not remembered today, not at all. Here’s a Bertha strip, from 1926, for your edification.
