Kalyee Srithnam on The Shawshank Redemption, My Favorite Movie
The Shawshank Redemption is my all-time favorite movie. It’s a nice movie; I like it because it makes you think and cry.
It’s a story about hope, friendship, and redemption. Andy Dufresne is wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to life in Shawshank Prison. He befriends Red, the prison’s resident expert on finding loopholes in the system. Despite the harsh conditions, Andy never gives up hope that he’ll someday be free. Through their friendship, Andy and Red come to understand that the most important thing in life is not what happens to us, but how we respond to what happens to us. When Andy finally escapes Shawshank, it’s a testament to the power of hope and determination.
Tim Robbins gives an amazing performance as Andy. Robbins conveys Andy’s hope and determination in a way that is both inspiring and believable. Morgan Freeman was fantastic and, as I recall, the only film I’ve seen him in that didn’t make me cringe. Morgan Freeman’s other movies are usually depressing; Shawshank is the exception. His other movies might make you think, but Shawshank will make you feel.
This movie is also a great example of how to keep your audience interested. It’s not all action-packed; there are long periods of time where not much happens. But because we care about the characters and their story, we’re happy to stick around for the ride.

The Shawshank Redemption is my favorite movie because it is a story about hope, friendship, and redemption. I also like that the story has a happy ending. The inmates don’t die, they don’t get locked up in a metal coffin. They get to go back to their lives. The Shawshank Redemption is an incredibly powerful film that reminds us of how the justice system is flawed. How evil people can sometimes get away with doing evil things. But, most importantly, it reminds us that hope is always worth holding on to. No matter how dire our circumstances may be.
Shawshank Redemption is a must-watch movie for anyone who wants to feel appreciated and have hope. It’s definitely one of my favorites. I would recommend Shawshank Redemption to anyone who likes a good drama with a feel-good ending. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
